About Maple Wire

What we are

Maple Wire is a Canadian-built news aggregator. We bring together English and French coverage from Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Oceania, Latin America, and the United States — all in one place, without an algorithm deciding what you should think about it.

What we're not

We're not a newsroom. We don't employ reporters, and we don't write or edit the stories you see here. Every headline and summary on Maple Wire comes from the original publisher, and every article links back to the source so you can read the full story where it was actually written.

Why "compare coverage"

The same event often looks different depending on who's reporting it. Rather than picking one version of a story and presenting it as the version, Maple Wire's Compare Coverage feature shows you how multiple outlets — sometimes from very different regions or editorial traditions — are covering the same event, side by side.

We're not claiming to be unbiased. Nobody curating a source list really is. What we're aiming for instead is transparency: showing you the range of framings so you can draw your own conclusions, rather than asking you to trust ours.

How it works

Maple Wire pulls headlines and summaries from publicly available RSS feeds published by each news source. We display what they choose to share in their feed — a headline, a short summary, sometimes an image — and link directly to their site for the full article. We don't scrape or reproduce full article text, and we don't run ads on top of publishers' content.

A note on sources

We try to include a genuine range of perspectives, including sources that may have different editorial approaches or political leanings than each other. Including a source doesn't mean Maple Wire endorses everything it publishes — it means we think it's a legitimate voice worth including in the fuller picture.

Who's behind this

Maple Wire is an independent, bootstrapped project built from scratch — no funding, no newsroom, just a belief that Canadians (and anyone else who finds this useful) deserve a clearer way to see how the world is being covered.
